With summer just around the corner it’s time to start thinking about getting your garden in shape ready for some alfresco fun. A well-kept garden can also add value to your property, especially in the warmer months, as buyers plan their potential barbecues and paddling pool parties when viewing a new home.
Here are some simple ways to ensure your outside space looks fresh and cared for:
Mow the lawn
It’s an obvious one but if you have any green space, take advantage of a dry day and give the grass a good cut. Be sure to use a strimmer to tidy up any edges too. If your grass is patchy, look into ways to repair it – perhaps throwing some grass seeds on it to help the grass grow back. Trim back any trees hedges and spruce up any untidy borders with flowers.
Time to clean away the winter months of moss and the dropping blossom from spring with a thorough jet-wash of any paving, decking or PVC facings. It will soon have them gleaming like new.
Whip off the winter covers and strategically place your furniture in the best spots. A nice table and chairs dressed for an alfresco meal will be very appealing to potential buyers and a pretty swing chair to sit back and enjoy the last of the summer sun will have them dreaming of their own balmy evenings spent in the garden.
Sheds and storage
Make sure sheds and any other outside storage is tidy and in good order. If they are looking a bit tired, it might be time to give them a lick of varnish or paint. The same applies to fences or walls that surround your front and back gardens. It’s a simple job that can be very rewarding when it comes to selling your home.
Hose down any swings and slides that may have been housing spiders for most of the winter. Be sure to place any large pieces, like trampolines, so they’re not obstructing the view of the entire garden as it can make it appear smaller than it actually is.
Sensored floodlights are great, especially for property viewings at dusk or after dark as they really show the whole garden. Solar lights can look pretty and are relatively cheap to buy so look at ways you can use them to section your garden or light a pathway. If you have any trees in your garden, look into purchasing a few uplighters to create a striking effect – that apple tree would look really inviting to green-fingered buyers.
